Dr. Rachel Wander with Niki, Mouse, Sam, & Bernard

Rachel Wander, DVM CVA

Rachel Wander received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in May 2002. Since graduation, she has practiced small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine in Maryland. While she enjoyed practicing in traditional veterinary hospitals, Dr. Wander felt that there simply was not enough time allotted to each pet’s appointment to discuss proper preventative care and to get to know the needs of each client and pet. In addition, pets were often scared of the car ride to the hospital and of the strange sounds and smells once they arrived there. So in 2007, she launched Healthy Pet Mobile Vet, allowing longer visits with personalized treatment plans in a stress-free environment.

In more recent years, Dr. Wander has taken an integrative approach to veterinary medicine, combining traditional Western veterinary medicine with more holistic Eastern medicine. By utilizing the best practices from both worlds, she has been able to provide exceptional care for her patients, increasing their quality and quantity of life.

Dr. Wander always knew that she would become a veterinarian and now strives to improve the human-animal bond. She approaches each animal as if it was her own and only wishes to provide the very best medical and surgical care. Her veterinary interests include preventative wellness care, dermatology (especially ear infections!), dentistry, senior wellness and hospice care, food therapy & acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and rehabilitation therapy. Dr. Wander also enjoys community outreach activities such as assisting with science fairs, pet-facilitated therapy, and volunteering at schools to teach children about proper pet care.

Dr. Wander lives with her husband Brian, their sons Rohan and Cooper, and their many rescued pet-children including two Shetland sheepdogs, an 18-year old California kingsnake, a bearded dragon, and a carnival goldfish.

Current affiliations include: American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Western Maryland Association of Veterinary Medicine, and the Veterinary Information Network.
